Investit Intelligence Summer Conference

London, Tuesday 6 July

On Tuesday 6 July, Investit Intelligence will host its twelfth conference, featuring the research you voted for in January followed by interactive discussion on each topic. The research projects we will present are:

Global Operating Models and Outsourcing: Investment managers are increasingly challenged by the limitations of their existing operational platforms. This has lead to an appetite to overhaul existing platforms to deliver a multi-asset class global operating model. This session will analyse the evolution of investment managers’ business strategy and explore how they can deliver a homogenised global platform. We will also highlight the challenges and opportunities for third party providers and how they can meet the global needs of their clients. Finally we will identify best practice for the design, development and delivery of the global operating models of tomorrow, for both investment managers and their providers.

Risk Management Best Practice: Recent market events have driven fundamental changes to the profile of risk management in terms of governance and focus; in this session we will provide an analysis of these changes and their drivers. We will look at how different organisational and governance structures are used to manage risk, and explore the role of the CRO. This session will also highlight the different approaches of measuring the performance of the risk management function and how the various types of risk are managed, measured, monitored and reported. Finally we examine to what extent aspects of risk management can be outsourced and provide a précis of the different systems currently available in this area.

Central Counterparty Clearing: This session will concentrate on the move towards Central Counterparty Clearing (CCC) for Over The Counter derivatives (OTCs). Here, we will explain how CCCs are expected to work and their implications for buy-side firms.  We will also discuss how Third Party Administrators fit into the new operational model and what investment managers can expect from their service providers. Importantly, we will set out what steps firms need to take in order to be ready to react to regulatory changes as they arise.

The Operational Impact of UCITS IV - Update: This research project is due to be completed by January 2011 and will be run as a series of five or more workshops. The results of these workshops will be delivered in a sequence of short reports. In this session we will provide an overview of the scope of the workshops, the progress to date and an overview of the interim findings and deliverables.
